Services
The objective of Titan Wheel & Rims is to provide the Mining and Earthmoving industries with the highest quality of workmanship, products and services. We operate in Australia with the full product and technical support of the Titan Europe group of companies. Our testing and maintenance facilities are located in Townsville and Crestmead (Brisbane) in Queensland, Muswellbrook and Sydney in NSW and Perth, WA. Our staff is dedicated to a Quality process which targets 100% customer satisfaction. We respect our clients’ environment and need for products which are designed and built for their extreme conditions.
We strongly recommend that periodic in-service inspection and examination of wheels and rim assemblies be undertaken which take into account work-site conditions and usage. This allows effective monitoring of rim conditions for safety purposes.
Where appropriate, accurate service hours should be made available which can determine overall fatigue status.
Maintenance and Repairs
Off highway wheels and rims are often subjected to loads and pressures at their maximum capabilities, therefore rims must be strong and durable, and like any other components they have a service life. The mining and earthmoving industries by their very nature can result in variations in terrain where higher than normal loads on individual wheel positions occur. The effects of uneven loads, down-hill hauls with high speed turns, and under inflated tyres in dual assemblies can produce periodic high stresses in rim assemblies, subsequently reducing fatigue life. The effects of corrosion and fretting between rim assembly components can produce surface irregularities which may result in crack initiation and ultimately component fracture. If cracks are left undetected, the rim may suffer a catastrophic failure with potential risk to the health and safety of persons within the vicinity.
Titan Wheel & Rims offers a comprehensive testing and replacement service for all brands of rims. We undertake the following procedures:
- A visual inspection checking for mechanical damage, excessive wear, pitting and any visual cracking.
- Shot-blasting prepares the rim for comprehensive testing to the Australian Standard AS 4457:1997.
- Magnetic Particle Testing is carried out in accordance with Australian Standard AS1171 by an independent contract specialist in non-destructive testing to ensure total transparency.
- Ultra Sonic Testing exposes flaws in the circumferential welds which may lead to premature failure and tyre deflation.
- Tolerances, permissible wear and defects are measured and determined by qualified personnel in accordance with Australian Standard AS4457.
- Welding, as required, for the replacement of back sections, front sections and repair or replacement of damaged mounting discs is undertaken in accordance with the Australian Standard AS1554.5:2004.
